My story

I’m Mika. I grew up on the coast of Ceará, Brazil, where I first learned to kite. With dual American and Brazilian nationalities, I now travel the world—from Tarifa to northern Brazil—training, meeting incredible people, and discovering new spots along the way.  

I’ve always been active, and by 8, I was racing dirt bikes in the dunes and along the beaches of Brazil. But kitesurfing became my true passion. My parents, both avid kitesurfers with a hotel on the beach, didn’t let me start until I was 8 ½. Once I did, I was hooked. By 10, I was Junior World Champion, and since 13, I’ve been a 7-time World Champion, dominating the GKA World Tour.  

I recently landed two tricks no woman had ever done in competition before: the late back board-off and double front roll contra board-off.  

After homeschooling until 2017, I joined the World Class Kiteboarding Academy, traveling the world to study and kite every day. By 2019, with my schedule packed with training and competitions, I switched to online school to keep up with both academics and kitesurfing. Now, I’m full-time on the road—chasing the best wind conditions, filming, promoting the sport, and discovering new places to push the limits. When I’m not on the water, I’m in the gym, staying sharp and ready for whatever comes next.
